first his crush shoots up a police station and holds his friends hostage and is promptly drowned and he had to witness his best friend “die” and probably still thinks his best friend is dead

And hey, lbr, the way things have been going for him, he probably never found a date to the rave, either (where he likely saw Matt dancing with Allison and got all sad)…
